Your coastal folio assignment is due on Friday 23rd April. The task sheet has been uploaded to studywiz. Below is an overview of the tasks and what you need to complete. You have most of the time in class to complete this.
Task 1 – Field Trip Booklet
Complete your field trip booklet. Don’t forget to include all the field sketches. Make sure these are clearly annotated, have a border, title and source. Remember as much detail as possible.
Task 2 – Google Map
You need to create a google map of the field trip. The task sheet has a list of questions that you need to answer about each stop. To create a google map, you need to:
- Sign up for a gmail account (if you don’t have one)
- Follow the steps outlined in the youtube below to create your map. Use the photos and video in your map if you can.
Once you have finished you map, you need to invite me to view your map. Do this by clicking on the ‘collaborate’ button, and adding my gmail address.
An example of one of the Google Maps completed by a student last year is found below.

Task 3 – Human Impacts
Create an iMovie or Keynote presentation that provides an overview of the human impacts and how they are being managed at a location of your choice. You will need to consider the following:
• What are the impacts that you observed at your chosen stop?
• Why would these impacts be occurring?
• What can be done or should be done to reduce or minimize the negative impacts on the coastal area? You will need to include as much detail as possible in this section. Consider impacts such as housing developments, the clearing and development on foredunes, litter, tourism, groynes, beach nourishment etc.
The aim of the iMovie or Keynote is to educate the public, as well as provide an overview on what is being done at these beaches to reduce these impacts.
Task 4 – A Coastal Processes Instructional Video
Each person in the class will be given a specific coastal process prior to the fieldtrip. You are required to put together an instructional iMovie that will teach a class about this coastal process. You will need to collect original footage when you are on the field trip, either as video or photos. Some questions to consider:
• What is the coastal process?
• Why does it occur?
• How does it occur?
• What impact did it have on the coastal area?
• What impact do humans have on this process?
